Embedding Authentic Voice: Hampshire

Transforming Hampshire’s response to domestic abuse

About Authentic Voice in Hampshire

Our Authentic Voice (AV) project is transforming Hampshire’s response to domestic abuse by ensuring survivor voices are at the centre of local policies and services.

Commissioned by Hampshire County Council, on behalf of the Hampshire Domestic Abuse Partnership (HDAP) Board, this two-year project will ensure local organisations and survivors are at the heart of tackling domestic abuse by supporting them to share lived experience and develop best practice.

Importantly, the project will also create a safe and sustainable approach to hearing from children and young people in Hampshire. The Domestic Abuse Act 2021 recognises children as victims in their own right, and as part of a whole family approach to domestic abuse, we will ensure that local responses also embed the experiences and insight of children and young people whose needs are often overlooked.

Join Hampshire’s Authentic Voice Panel

At SafeLives, we put the voice of survivors at the heart of everything we do.
We are inviting survivors to join a new Hampshire* Authentic Voice Panel where, with our dedicated support, you can use your voice and experience to drive change and save lives.

As an expert by experience, you can help transform Hampshire’s approach to domestic abuse, to ensure survivors and families across the region get the right support at the right time.

We welcome all survivors, including those from a Black, Asian, or another racially minoritised background, those with a disability, those who identify as LGBTQ+ and/or older, 64+.

We are also welcoming men, people whose gender identity is different to the one they were assigned at birth and non-binary people. We would also like to hear from you if you’ve had experience of the family courts, are care experienced, have no recourse to public funds, or have had experiences with services post-abuse.

Details on what the panel is, how it works and how you can be involved can be found in the documents below.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact our team at hampshireauthenticvoice@safelives.org.uk

Authentic Voice Principles and Model

A summary of the Authentic Voice principles and Authentic Voice model. The AV principles are the foundation of all our Authentic Voice work. They were co-created by survivors (SafeLives Pioneers and Authentic Voice Panel) and professionals, some of whom also have lived experience of domestic abuse. The AV model was created to hold space for survivors to choose the level of involvement that best meets their needs at this time when using their lived experience in our work.

Survivor voices

A group of experts by experience came together and named themselves the SafeLives Pioneers, because they want to use their experiences and passion to change the world. Their voices inform everything we do, and together we aim to transform the response to domestic abuse in the UK – for every victim and survivor and their children.
