Open training for professionals in Scotland
We are pleased to offer a number of open courses for professionals in Scotland.
These courses are open to any professionals or volunteers in Scotland who are looking to strengthen and deepen their understanding of domestic abuse. Please note that all sessions will be hosted on Zoom and the cost of each course is £45.

Young Persons and Relationship Abuse
We are pleased to announce that we have a new open course focusing on young people and domestic abuse.

Tuesday 14th November - 9:30am - 4:30pm
Price:
£75 per person
Who is this course for? This course is suitable for anyone who works with or supports young people.
Young people experience the highest rates of domestic abuse of any age group. Improve the response in your local area to young people who are experiencing domestic abuse.
Our recent reports at Safe Lives highlight the fact that the abuse that young people experience may look different to the abuse that adults experience. We also found that existing adult domestic abuse support is not always equipped to meet the needs of young people.
It is important that support for young people is delivered in a way that is responsive to their needs and their specific issues are expertly addressed.
Course content:
- Increase your understanding of the dynamics of domestic abuse and how it is different for young people
- Encourage you to consider how adolescence impacts on a young persons behaviours
- Understand the key risk factors to serious harm
- Learn how to safety plan in a multi-agency context

Risk assessment for domestic abuse

Who is this course for? This course is suitable for professionals who need to risk assess with victims and/or refer to MARAC (Multi Agency Risk Assessment Conference).
Course content:
- Introduction to the Dash (Domestic Abuse, Stalking and Honour based violence) risk assessment tool
- Background and overview of the Dash risk assessment tool
- Multi-agency risk management
- Consent, data protection and information-sharing

Closed doors: How to safety plan with minority ethnic women experiencing domestic abuse
We are pleased to announce that we have a new open course, created with AMINA - Muslim Women's Resource Centre.

Who is this course for? This course is suitable for those who support minorty ethnic women or families who are experiencing domestic abuse in Scotland.
Course content:
- An overview of minority ethnic women’s experiences of domestic abuse in Scotland
- The impact of citizenship and immigration control on experiences of domestic abuse, including the effect of No Recourse to Public Funds
- Safety planning, signposting, and referral pathways for minority ethnic women
- Complex case study exercises

- Information-sharing in cases of domestic abuse
- Overview of the Domestic Abuse (Scotland) Act 2018 and other legal responses to domestic abuse
...the training for me, as a student was imperative to my understanding regarding domestic abuse and its intricacies. DAART: Domestic abuse awareness raising tool
DAART is our free online resource for professionals. It is an awareness-raising tool and serves as an introduction to domestic abuse and coercive control. It also provides a directory of local and national services in Scotland.

Please note that DAART provides an overview of the main considerations when responding to domestic abuse, it does not replace specialist domestic abuse training.
