Risk assessment and Dash training

Learn how to quickly and reliably assess the risk levels of victims and survivors of domestic abuse, using the Dash risk checklist.

Key course features

When someone is experiencing domestic abuse, it’s vital to make an accurate and fast assessment of the danger they’re in, so they can get the right help as quickly as possible. Our industry-recognised 'Dash Risk Indication Checklist' and training will help you achieve this. The training covers:

  • The definition of domestic abuse under the DA Act 2021
  • The concept of 'risk' and what it means in the domestic abuse context
  • The concept of 'risk assessment' and how to synthesise other sources of information as part of the process
  • The industry-recognised SafeLives Dash risk checklist tool - why it was developed, and how to use it
  • Best practice when holding conversations around domestic abuse and risk
  • Next steps after completion of the Dash risk checklist (including Marac referrals)
  • Initial safety planning and referrals to specialist support

Course overview

Our domestic abuse risk assessment training is designed to give learners the tools you need to identify a victim’s level of risk, and what actions to take as a result. You’ll also gain understanding of the different types of domestic abuse and how they manifest, including controlling and coercive behaviour.

I have greater confidence completing the Dash form and could support colleagues to do so as well.
