SafeLives gives evidence to the Domestic Abuse Bill committee, urging the Government to be more ambitious than its proposals to support just 0.5% of victims of abuse

To end domestic abuse, we must stop it at the root. We challenge perpetrators to change and we work to stop domestic abuse before it happens. We're actively building our evidence and understanding to develop approaches to prevent, identify and stop harmful behaviours.

SafeLives are pleased to see HMICRFS' interim eport today call for whole-system, cross-sectoral reform in the criminal justice system to respond to perpetrators of violence against women and girls. We also welcome the call for an unequivocal, cross-government prioritisation of the response to crimes which disproportionately affect women and girls.

Today the Home Office announced new funding of more than £10 million to organisations providing vital support to children who have survived domestic abuse. This will be rolled out through the 'Children Affected by Domestic Abuse Fund' over 3 years, to 8 organisations, including SafeLives.

SafeLives welcome the introduction of the long-awaited Victims and Prisoners Bill to Parliament today and look forward to engaging with parliamentarians as the Bill progresses. There are measures in this Bill which will improve the experiences of many victims of domestic abuse, but it must go further if it is to truly support all survivors.
