What’s included

Dash risk checklist for Idvas

The first section of this resource is the Dash risk checklist. The aim of the Dash risk checklist is to enable Idvas and other frontline professionals to identify high risk cases and to decide which cases should be referred to Marac and what other support might be required. It also provides a common tool that agencies within the Marac process can use.

This section covers key information that Idvas can refer to when using the Dash risk checklist, information with the recommended referral criteria to Marac, and information about what the Dash risk checklist is not.

The Dash risk checklist forms part of this section. It provides 24 questions for Idvas to use when working with their clients.

Please note that the responsibility for identifying your local referral thresholds rests with your local Marac.

Severity of Abuse Grid for Idva services

The second section of this resource is the Severity of Abuse Grid which has been developed to be used with the SafeLives Dash risk checklist checklist. The grid is designed to give Idvas a framework for identifying specific features of the abuse suffered, such as physical or sexual abuse, stalking and harassment, and jealous and controlling behaviour / emotional abuse. Using the grid helps guide you in addressing your client’s safety in an informed and coherent way.

Guidance is also provided within this section to help Idvas to complete the grid.

Please note that use of the Severity of Abuse Grid may also provide information that will be relevant for those cases going to Marac.

Practice guidance for using the checklist

The guidance provided in this resource helps Idvas complete the Dash risk checklist with their clients, and helps them identify which cases should be referred to Marac.

The Idva practice guidance is the largest part of this resource: it covers pages 8 to 20.

  • Introduction
