Identification and Referral Pathways Training: Scotland

The Identification and Referral Pathways training in Scotland will empower practitioners with the confidence to recognise domestic abuse, harm and effectively navigate risk assessment and referral processes.

Key course features

This training will enable practitioners to:

  • Understand the Scottish definition of domestic abuse
  • Develop professional curiosity and confidence in identifying the signs of domestic abuse
  • Learn about the DASH Risk Assessment tool
  • Know the appropriate referral pathways and support services, including MARAC

Course overview

This 1-day training is aimed to equip learners with the skills for early identification, appropriate risk assessment, and timely referrals, ensuring professionals are prepared to intervene and safeguard victims before domestic abuse escalates.

 

If you are a professional who has or may encounter victims of domestic abuse as part of your normal duties, then this course is for you.

 

Learners will come away with:

  • A clear understanding of what constitutes domestic abuse, including various forms such as physical, emotional, financial, and coercive control, with reference to the specific definition used in Scotland.
  • Confidence in recognising the signs and indicators of domestic abuse, having developed skills to ask sensitive, professional curiosity questions to explore concerns.
  • An understanding of the domestic abuse risk assessment tool DASH (Domestic Abuse, Stalking, and Honour-Based Violence). Understanding how to evaluate risk levels to ensure appropriate action.
  • Learning how to respond appropriately after a risk assessment. Understand when and how to refer to Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Conference (Marac) or other suitable support services such as Scottish Women’s Aid and Victim Support, depending on the level of risk.

This training is aimed at any professional working in Scotland who may come into contact with victims of domestic abuse as part of their ordinary duties, including volunteers.
