Covid-19: Marac and frontline services surveys

Results of 2020 surveys on the impact of the pandemic

Following the introduction of emergency measures responding to Covid-19, the UK went into a lockdown on 23rd March 2020. We wanted to assess the impact of the pandemic on frontline services and Maracs.

Impact on domestic abuse frontline services

We sent out a survey to frontline services by email and shared it on our social media feeds. The survey was open from 24 to 27 March and we received 132 responses.

  • 76%

    of respondents said they have had to reduce service delivery

    due to Covid-19

  • 79%

    said they were concerned about the increased risk their clients faced

  • 42%

    of them say they are not able to effectively support child victims of abuse

    and 22% of services say they are not able to effectively support adult victims of abuse at the moment

Impact on Maracs in England, Wales and Northern Ireland

We sent out a survey to each Marac in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The survey was open from the 21st April. Almost half (49%) of all Maracs responded to the survey at the time of analysis on the 10th June 2020.

    noticed a change in attendance of agencies since lockdown

    said referrals were lower than usual

    said it was more difficult for the Idva to contact the victim

    during lockdown
