Hertfordshire Domestic Abuse Coproduction Panel and Collective

Supporting Hertfordshire’s Domestic Abuse Coproduction Panel and Collective

As part of Hertfordshire’s commitment to survivors of domestic abuse, their Domestic Abuse and Violence Against Women and Girls Executive and Partnership Boards have committed to setting up and supporting a panel and collective of survivors of domestic abuse who want to improve how it is for other survivors of domestic abuse.

The panel, established in 2021, is a small and influential group of people with lived experience of domestic abuse, who have used domestic abuse services.

The first collective member joined in January 2025 and we are actively seeking new members to welcome in to both.

Herts Domestic Abuse Coproduction Panel and Collective

At SafeLives, we put the voice of survivors at the heart of everything we do and are committed to working with, and alongside survivors and colleagues in Hertfordshire.

The Hertfordshire Domestic Abuse Coproduction  Panel is part of Hertfordshire’s Domestic Abuse and Violence Against Women and Girls Governance and Partnership. The panel’s aim is to improve the lives of all victims and survivors of domestic abuse across Hertfordshire, in partnership with Hertfordshire County Council.

SafeLives has been commissioned by Hertfordshire County Council to facilitate and support the panel and the collective.

The panel is actively seeking to grow and welcome in five new members to be part of an inclusive and diverse panel (women, men and non-binary people) and are keen to hear from survivors who are also:

  • from ethnic minority/global majority communities [including survivors seeking asylum, refugees and people with no recourse to public funds (NRPF)] and/or
  • from the LGBTQ+ community and/or
  • younger (18-25) or older (over 65)

Details on what the panel is, how it works and how you can be involved can be found in the documents below.

The panel is a commitment of approximately 4 hours per month (including 1.5 hours per month of an online meeting + preparation and follow up time for meetings) and some members take on additional work by agreement e.g. improving the responses of housing associations to domestic abuse and raising awareness of Post Separation Abuse.

If you are not from one of the groups above or are wanting to be involved/connected in a looser way than a regular monthly commitment, you may want to consider joining the collective.

Authentic Voice Principles and Model

A summary of the Authentic Voice principles and Authentic Voice model. The AV principles are the foundation of all our Authentic Voice work. They were co-created by survivors (SafeLives Pioneers and Authentic Voice Panel) and professionals, some of whom also have lived experience of domestic abuse. The AV model was created to hold space for survivors to choose the level of involvement that best meets their needs at this time when using their lived experience in our work.

Survivor voices

A group of experts by experience came together and named themselves the SafeLives Pioneers, because they want to use their experiences and passion to change the world. Their voices inform everything we do, and together we aim to transform the response to domestic abuse in the UK – for every victim and survivor and their children.
