SafeLives responds to the Chancellor's budget: £10million for perpetrator response
The Chancellor’s budget today announced £10million of funding for responding to high-harm, high-risk perpetrators of domestic abuse.
Suzanne Jacob OBE, Chief Executive of SafeLives, said:
‘We welcome the Government’s first substantive response to our joint Call to Action, led by domestic abuse perpetrator intervention, Drive, and backed by over 70 signatories. The Call to Action puts forward the case for a national perpetrator strategy to reduce violent crime and keep victims and families safe.
‘£10m is an important sign of intent from the Government about the need to end domestic abuse by challenging those who use abuse and supporting them to change their behaviour.
‘This is a very welcome first step in a big set of changes. Next, we hope to see investment in the services for the whole family – both adults and children – who are harmed daily by abuse. Only a whole family response can ensure we end abuse for everyone and for good.’
