SafeLives response to the Chancellor's Spending Review

Following The Chancellor of the Exchequer's Spending Review today, we welcome the renewed commitment to an extra 20,000 police who we hope will receive early support to understand and respond effectively to domestic abuse and coercive and controlling behaviour.

Half of English and Welsh forces have now received DA Matters cultural change training.  We’d like to see new first responders join the training so that victims receive the same response no matter where they live.

We look forward to seeing the full detail of departmental budget spend on domestic abuse to see how the government has addressed the need for a holistic approach to support the whole family – adult, teen and child victims, and crucially perpetrators – including funding for much needed community based domestic abuse services.

We look forward to understanding how much of the £125m announced for victims of domestic abuse for The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government is reserved for community-based services.
