My Story Matters: Discovery report launch

Read the report - My Story Matters: Understanding young people’s perceptions of abuse in their romantic relationships.

Discovery report launch event:

Thursday 13 May 2021

13:00 – 14:30 BST

Those who joined this event heard insights into how young people talk about their intimate relationships and their perceptions of abuse.

New findings and pilot interventions from My Story Mattersa partnership project between SafeLives and On Our Radar, will be useful for anyone working with children and young people at risk of harm and anyone developing policy in this area.

My Story Matters worked with young people to co-create a way of sharing and collecting their relationship stories and helping them understand where to draw the line between healthy and unhealthy relationships. This event launched the Discovery Report.

The event discussed:

  • The process of co-creating with young people
  • Insight into their relationships and perceptions of abuse
  • Draw the Line, the mobile platform we created that enables 13-19-year-olds to interact with real relationship stories
  • Next steps for this work with young people.

Speakers:

  • Libby Drew, Director, On Our Radar
  • Susie Hay, Head of Research, Evaluation and Analysis, SafeLives
  • Josh Taylor, Senior Research Analyst, SafeLives
  • Followed by a Q&A

More about My Story Matters:

Our research shows that young people often face quite severe abuse in their relationships compared with older age groups. Being able to work with young people to help make their peers aware of the signs of abuse could really help future generations.

Domestic abuse charity, SafeLives, and On Our Radar, the digital communications agency for unheard communities, partnered to co-design a digital space for young people, to help them recognise the early signs of abuse in their intimate partner relationships, put a human face on recovery and help others by increasing awareness.

Co-creation is at the heart of this work. We connected with a range of groups of young people (13 – 18 years) from across the UK to speak to us about relationships and their use of tech and support. Together we created the Draw The Line mobile platform. www.drawtheline.uk
